Breast Cancer

Breast cancer is a disease in which cells in the breast grow out of control and form a tumour. It most often starts in the ducts that carry milk to the nipple, or in the lobules that make milk, and it can affect men as well as women.

Our role is to provide supportive, complementary therapies alongside conventional care where appropriate.

01 / Overview

About breast cancer

Also known as: carcinoma of the breast, ductal carcinoma, lobular carcinoma.

Verita Life provides a personalised approach to integrative breast cancer treatment, assisting patients and their loved ones every step of the way. Through evidence-backed medical care alongside holistic therapies, each patient treatment plan is tailored to diagnosis, stage, overall health, and personal well-being goals.

At Verita Life our combined goal is to provide conventional and alternative cancer treatments as part of a broader supportive care plan, with a concentrated focus on optimising comfort, resilience, and quality of life.

Our role is to provide supportive, complementary therapies alongside conventional care where appropriate. These approaches may help support wellbeing, comfort and quality of life during the cancer journey. We work with patients who are seeking integrative options, whether alongside ongoing medical treatment or as part of a broader supportive care plan.

02 / Types

Breast Cancer types

Breast Cancer is a blanket term that covers a number of different subtypes. Each different form of breast cancer has its own characteristics and requires a different approach to treatment. At Verita Life we tailor patient care programmes to the individual and their unique circumstances, taking into account the breast cancer type, stage, and current or previous treatments.

We commonly work with patients with many different breast cancer types, including but not limited to:

Receptor status

  • Hormone receptor-positive breast cancer

breast cancer caused as a response to hormones including oestrogen and progesterone. Usually treated with hormone-blocking therapy.
  • HER2-positive breast cancer

a potentially fast-growing cancer that produces high levels of the HER2 protein. Often treated with targeted medicines.
  • Triple-negative breast cancer

a type of breast cancer not caused by hormones or HER2 receptors. More likely to be treated with chemotherapy and immunotherapy.

Invasiveness

  • Invasive breast cancer

breast cancer that has spread from where it started into breast tissue.
  • Non-invasive breast cancer

breast cancer that is contained in the ducts.

Other forms

  • Inflammatory breast cancer

a rare and more aggressive form of breast cancer that affects the skin in the breast.
  • Lobular breast cancer

breast cancer that begins in the milk-producting glands.

Spread

  • Metastatic breast cancer

Breast cancer that has spread to other parts of the body, most often the bones, liver, lungs, or brain.

03 / Symptoms

Breast Cancer symptoms

Breast cancer may not cause symptoms at first, and it is often found on a screening mammogram before anything can be felt. When it does cause symptoms, the most common one is a lump. Signs and symptoms can include:

  • A lump or thickened area in the breast or underarm that feels different from the surrounding tissue
  • A change in the size, shape, or appearance of a breast
  • Dimpling, puckering, or skin that looks like an orange peel
  • A nipple that turns inward, or discharge from the nipple other than breast milk
  • Redness, scaling, or flaking of the skin of the breast or nipple
  • Pain in any area of the breast that does not go away

Most breast lumps are not cancer. But how a lump feels cannot tell you whether it is cancer, so any change should be checked.

04 / Stages

Breast Cancer stages

The stage describes how far the cancer has grown and whether it has spread. It is worked out from the size of the tumour, whether lymph nodes are involved, and whether cancer is found elsewhere in the body, together with the grade of the cells and their hormone receptor and HER2 status.

Stage 0 is non-invasive cancer contained in the ducts. Stages I to III are invasive cancers of increasing size and lymph-node involvement that have not spread beyond the breast and nearby nodes. Stage IV, also called metastatic breast cancer, has spread to other parts of the body.

The stage shapes what conventional treatment is offered and which of our therapies are appropriate.

Stages we support: Stage I, Stage II, Stage III, Stage IV, Metastatic.

05 / Conventional care

Conventional treatment

Breast cancer treatment depends on the type, the stage, the receptor status, and your overall health and preferences. Most people have a combination of the treatments below, planned by an oncology team. Verita Life does not replace this care. Our therapies are designed to support it.

Surgery

Surgery removes the cancer and some surrounding tissue. A lumpectomy keeps most of the breast; a mastectomy removes all breast tissue. Nearby lymph nodes are often removed and checked for cancer.

Radiation therapy

High-energy beams directed at the breast or chest wall, most often after surgery, to lower the risk of the cancer coming back.

Chemotherapy

Medicines that kill fast-growing cells, given before surgery to shrink a tumour or after surgery to remove cells that remain. Side effects such as fatigue, nausea, and low immunity are common and are one of the main reasons patients come to us for support.

Hormone therapy

Medicines that block oestrogen or progesterone, used for hormone receptor-positive cancers, often for several years.

Targeted therapy and immunotherapy

Medicines that act on specific features of the cancer cells, such as HER2, or that help the immune system recognise the cancer. Used for HER2-positive and some triple-negative cancers.

Treatment for breast cancer care at Verita Life

Verita Life’s integrative breast cancer treatments incorporate medically-backed traditional therapies with holistic therapies designed to complement conventional care. Our breast cancer treatments include:

Metronomic Therapy
Metronomic chemotherapy is an approach to cancer treatment in which chemotherapy is given at a lower dose, but more frequently and with shorter or no extended breaks between treatments.
Metabolic Treatment
Metabolic approaches investigate how cancer cells obtain and use energy and nutrients. Cancer cells behave very differently to healthy cells, often heavily relying on glucose and alter their metabolic pathways in order to grow more rapidly than healthy cells. This is a broad area of research, not a single established treatment or diet and at Verita Life we use metabolic approaches within our wider, personalised treatment plans.
Local Body Hyperthermia
Local body hyperthermia is a type of integrative therapy designed to work alongside both integrative oncology care and conventional cancer treatments. Local body hyperthermia is a targeted heat-based therapy that delivers controlled heat to specific areas of the body.
IPT & Low-Dose Chemotherapy
Insulin potentiation therapy, or IPT, uses insulin alongside lower doses of chemotherapy as part of an integrative cancer treatment approach.
Herbal Cancer Therapy
Following years of research, our medical team have developed specific herbal treatment protocols to address varying types of tumours. We use proven compounds that stem from all natural herbal ingredients such as curcumin, quercetin and other anti-cancer therapies.
Biological Treatment
Biological treatments are supportive regimens that can sometimes fall under immunotherapy due to their nature, and work by harnessing the body's natural immune system or targeting precise molecular pathways involved in cancer growth.
Natural Killer Cell Therapy
Natural Killer (NK) cells are a type of lymphocyte, or white blood cell, that play a major role in the immune system by targeting and killing infected cells and cancer cells.

The treatments below are used across cancer types. Which ones apply to you is decided in your consultation.
