01 / How it works

How Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy works

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) delivers high concentrations of oxygen under increased atmospheric pressure, driving oxygen deep into body tissues and fluids to accelerate healing and combat disease.

In a hyperbaric chamber, atmospheric pressure is increased to 2.0 times higher than normal sea-level air pressure while the patient breathes filtered oxygen. Under normal conditions, oxygen is carried through the body bound to red blood cells but in a pressurised chamber, oxygen is physically dissolved directly into the blood plasma and other fluid which enables it to reach areas where red blood cells cannot easily pass, such as swollen, damaged, or oxygen-starved tissues.

02 / When it is considered

When this treatment may be considered

Before your first session, our team will review absolute and conditional contraindications to ensure HBOT is appropriate and safe. It is particularly important to tell the team about lung conditions, ear or sinus problems and any implanted devices.

What to expect

45-90 minutes

Safety First
Patient safety is our highest priority, especially when using HBOT chambers. We have a variety of safety measures in place, including separate sensors which measure ambient oxygen rate to maintain safe levels; a wired phone system to communicate with medical team; medical team remaining in the room at all times while machine is in use; a manual release valve for use in emergencies.
Luxury Experience
Our HBOT is designed with comfort in mind and built using luxury materials and climate control. An inbuilt smart projector means you can watch YouTube or browse Netflix while relaxing in our comfortable reclining chair.
Tailored Sessions
For those who experience any discomfort as the atmospheric pressure builds or who struggle to equalize, we can adjust pressurisation speed to ensure maximal comfort. The smart unit will adjust the treatment time to ensure maximum efficacy.

Before your first session, our team will review absolute and conditional contraindications to ensure HBOT is appropriate and safe.

Once you’re inside the HBOT device, you can take a seat in the reclining chair and begin to relax in comfort as we slowly pressurise the chamber. Once the chamber is pressurised, we will begin to administer concentrated oxygen to the patient through a nasal cannula.

Some patients experience a sensation in the ears that is similar to that experienced while flying, but this is usually relieved by swallowing or yawning. If you find the pressurisation uncomfortable, we can lower the speed; however, this requires a longer duration in the chamber.

We also have temperature control within the chambers so you’re in control of how hot or cold you feel. We provide blankets in case the chamber feels cold after the pressure decreases after the session.
