Understanding Colorectal Cancer
Colorectal Cancer happens in the form of a tumour, or multiple tumours developing in the large intestine, colon or rectum. When the healthy cells in the lining of the colon or rectum begin to grow uncontrollably, polyps or masses are formed.

If this tumour is malignant, it’s considered to be Colorectal Cancer and has a high chance of spreading to other areas.

Colorectal Cancer is the third most common cancer in the world, accounting for approximately 1.4 million cases per year. As with similar cancers that are heavily dictated by lifestyle, Colon Cancer is more predominant in developed countries such as Europe and North America.

The most manageable risk factors are weight, diet and physical activity. Other factors include age, race, genetic predisposition and inflammatory bowel disease.

Most Common Symptoms
Monitoring any changes in your digestion and bowel movements can be key to early Colorectal Cancer detection. This can include narrow stool, change in movement frequency, diarrhoea and/or constipation, bright red or dark stool and abdominal discomfort.

Unexplained fatigue and weight loss are also common indicators, although on their own could be attributed to any number of conditions. The mainstream treatment options, depending on the location and severity, can range from chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and surgery.
