Ovarian cancer is the fifth leading cause of cancer deaths for females. According to statistics, 1 out of every 78 women will develop ovarian cancer. Ovarian cancer is a type of cancer that originates in the ovaries. The ovaries are the female productive glands produces eggs and the female hormones, estrogen and progesterone. The types of ovarian tumours are epithelial, stromal and germ cell tumour. Ovarian cancer is difficult to detect at an early stage and is often not detected until it has spread to other areas of the body. The risk of developing ovarian cancer is higher for older women (especially for those over 63 years of age), women with family history of breast cancer, women with inherited genetic mutations of BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes, and menopause women who use estrogen hormone replacement therapy.
