Can Green Tea Reduce The Risk Of Prostate Cancer?

A recent study shows that Prostate Cancer can be prevented from developing by using some of the active components commonly found in green tea. As simple as it may sound, one of the most popular drinks in human history may contain one of the most potent types of medication for combating this type of tumour.

Prostate Cancer in men is the second most common type of cancer, afflicting roughly 220.000 patients in the United States every single year. However, thanks to the efforts of a team of researchers, the results from a recent trial proved that Green Tea may contain a solution to those patients suffering from premalignant lesions.

Green Tea: Reducing Risk of Prostate Cancer
The team of researchers, led by Nagi B. Kumar, Ph.D., R.D., F.A.D.A. at Moffitt Cancer Center, said that this can be one of the reasons why Prostate Cancer-related deaths are very low in Asian countries, where the consumption of green tea is very widespread. Dr. Kumar strongly believes that including this drink in our dietary habits will help lower the incidence of Prostate Cancer.

Studies have proven that “catechins” is the substance in green tea which inhibits cancer cell growth, motility and invasion, inducing apoptosis, or cellular death in cancer cells. It is also capable of reducing and even preventing the disease’s growth. The trial’s main goal was to properly evaluate how the catechins found in green tea could hinder the development of Prostate Cancer in male patients with a high-grade intraepithelial neoplasia (HGPIN) or atypical small acinar proliferation (ASAP). The results of this unique research have been presented at the 2015 American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Annual Meeting in Chicago.

Prostate Cancer Incidence
Men in North America suffer from Prostate Cancer more than any other type of tumour save for skin cancer and it is found primarily in men of older generations. It is in the United States alone, that one out of five men will be diagnosed with this condition.

Verita Life has been following news such as this one with great excitement. Over the course of many years, it has been in our best interest to show our patients how a balanced and organic diet does wonders when it comes to preventing tumours or even helping those that suffer from one.
